Roluos Group Temples Discover the birthplace of Khmer classical architecture at the Roluos Group Temples, one of the earliest capitals of the Khmer Empire. Located in the peaceful countryside east of Siem Reap, these ancient temples date back to the 9th century and offer visitors a fascinating journey into Cambodia’s rich history. The Roluos Group consists of three main temples: Preah Ko, Bakong, and Lolei. Built during the reign of King Indravarman I, these temples mark the beginning of the great Angkor civilization.

Preah Ko is admired for its beautiful brick towers and detailed carvings dedicated to the royal family and Hindu gods. Bakong, the largest temple in the group, is considered one of the first temple mountains in Khmer architecture and features impressive sandstone structures surrounded by moats and lush greenery. Lolei, built on an artificial island, offers a peaceful atmosphere and remarkable ancient inscriptions.

*Please be aware that to visit several of our temples, you must wear appropriate clothing. This implies that your shirt cannot be sleeveless (make sure your top covers your shoulders, no singlets), and your slacks or skirt should cover your knees. Otherwise, the Temple Authority will not permit you to enter or ascend. Due to the extremely hot and humid weather from March to July, it is advised to wear light cotton clothing and comfortable walking shoes. We advise you to pack your camera charger so you may use it to recharge it at the restaurant during your lunch break.
